🔟 Take the kids to play at Bass Hollow Park, a scenic drive from Mauston on Highway K. Located 10 miles south of Mauston on County Highway K, this is a 295-acre recreation area offering beautiful views and trails in Wisconsin's unglaciated "coulee" region. The day use area has restrooms, playground equipment, and shelter available for rent. There is an approximately 3-mile trail that winds through the hollow. Allow plenty of time if attempting this hike, as the trail has many switchbacks and hilly topography. The trail is open to hiking and horseback riding and has several open water crossings. There is a small open shelter midway through the trail available for camping. The property is bordered on the north side by an undeveloped State Natural Area and an apple orchard near the lower parking area, also open to the public.
