9    Create your own beautiful arrangement at the Bouquet Workshop hosted by 4 Seasons Floral at Gravity Box Brewery on Monday. 

This hands-on floral experience features farm-fresh, locally grown flowers and expert guidance to help participants design a custom bouquet to take home. The event takes place at Gravity Box Brewing Co. (215 State St., Mauston) on Monday, July 21, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The $50 fee includes all materials, floral supplies, and one beverage from the bar. It’s a perfect evening to support local growers and get creative in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

Registration is available on Eventbrite or by calling or stopping in. Space is limited.

 

8    Grab dinner with friends at the Friday Fish Fry at the Mauston American Legion from 5–8 pm.

This weekly community favorite is held at the American Legion Hall (1055 E State St., Mauston). The Fox Hole Bar opens at 4:00 pm for drinks, with food service beginning at 5:00 pm. Guests are invited to enjoy a classic Wisconsin fish fry while supporting Post 81 Veterans and their families.

This concert is part of the free weekly music in the Park series, sponsored by the Friends of Hatch Public Library. 10   Take a long hike at the beautiful Bass Hollow County Recreation Area in Lyndon Station off Highway K.

Located 10 miles south of Mauston on County Highway K, this is a 295-acre recreation area offering beautiful views and trails in Wisconsin’s unglaciated “coulee” region. The day-use area has restrooms, playground equipment, and shelters available for rent. The approximately 3-mile trail winds through the hollow. Allow plenty of time if attempting this hike, as the trail has many switchbacks and hilly topography. The trail is open to hiking and horseback riding and has several open water crossings. There is a small open shelter midway through the trail that is available for camping. The property is bordered on the north side by an undeveloped State Natural Area, and an apple orchard near the lower parking area is also open to the public.

The theme for the 2025 fair is “Racing into Summer .”The Elroy Fair is a district fair held in Elroy, Wisconsin. 2   Take a look at some amazing vehicles and support local Veterans on Wednesday from 5–9 pm at the Summer Car Show at the Mauston American Legion

1055 E. State Street. Bring that prized car/truck/utility vehicle/motorcycle possession to show off, brag about, kick tires, take selfies, or just be in awe! Our Fox Hole Bar will be open. A local food truck will be available in our parking lot. Our commander is arranging live music for even more entertainment!!

Rumor has it that Mauston’s Jay’s Powersports will be in attendance, too! More specific information will be provided in the coming weeks leading up to each event: June 18th, July 16th, and August 20th.

Seen for its importance for migratory birds by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939, it was set aside for breeding and resident wildlife and for generations of people to enjoy.

2    Take a stroll to see the outstanding cowtastic cowmunity of cows along the Lions Park fence.  

This is the 12th Annual Cowtastic CowMOOnity Event, a fundraiser to benefit the Veterans Memorial Park and raise awareness for local businesses or clubs.  

Cows are on display the month of June at Lions Park in Mauston. Cow pictures will be put on the Juneau County Dairy Promotion Council’s Facebook page for viewers to vote on their favorite.  

The winning cow will earn a $100 cash prize and free sponsorship for the following year and will be displayed in front of the dairy pavilion during the 2025 Juneau County Fair.

2   Kayak with new friends at the monthly kayak tour at Buckhorn State Park on Wednesday from 9:30–11:30 am.

Join us for a paddle down the canoe interpretive trail out to the day-use island and back. This is a 3-mile round trip paddle with a ½ mile each way of open water out to the day-use island. A flush toilet is available at the park office, and a pit toilet at the canoe launch. A drinking fountain is available at the park office.

Plan: Meet at the canoe launch at 9:30 am. We will get everyone on the water and paddling by 10:00 am and back to the canoe launch by 12:30 pm.

Call the park office before each event date BEFORE 3 p.m. Monday, May 19th (For May 21st Event) to let us know you are coming or to rent a kayak if you do not have your own as equipment is limited. Up to 7 single and 4 double kayaks may be available to rent.

This event is recommended for all ages with some experience paddling. An accessible single kayak is available. The open water can be windy at times and has some waves, but it is shallow water most of the way. If the weather is bad, the event will be postponed until the next day (Thursday). If both days have bad weather, the event will be canceled.

10    Spot some Whooping Cranes as they start returning from Florida. Whooping Cranes are the largest and rarest of the wading birds and are prevalent in the Mauston Area. The Necedah National Wildlife Refuge is a great place to see them (use one of their spotting scopes along a trail or at the top of a lookout tower for the best luck)

9  Join the residents of Terrace Heights Retirement Community for an afternoon of uplifting fun and entertainment with Folk Music with Rich Baumann. This event is free and open to the public. 7  Make hotel reservations now to be in the area for the 10th Annual Ride to Rock Out the Silence on June 14th. This is a mile marker year for our chapter, celebrating 10 years of dedication to child abuse awareness. This ride is our largest fundraiser of the year. The Juneau County Forest dual-use Snowmobile and ATV/UTV Trail located on County Forest Land in Clearfield Township is open for winter ATV/UTV trail riding. This does not extend to ATV/UTV use on snowmobile trails that are on private property.

Please be aware that the trail could be opened to snowmobile use if enough snowfall is received yet this winter.

   Take a drive to see Castle Rock Lake as the ice heaves caused by the drawdown. A great place to see them is at the Buckhorn Bridge. The Drawdown is typically from February to the end of April (but varies as needed). Use extra caution around the ice as the water under it may be moving or drained away.
